Anybody reconize this Emergency cockpit light?
What were they used in?

Thanks!

I have one of those, an emergency light from a C-5 Galaxy. Hooks into a charger fitting on the wall, should have 2 lead electrodes on the back.

Cool, Thanks for that info.

Do you know what area it was mounted to? (just out of curiosity)
I can't seen it in these photos (or am I just missing it?) :)

Yep C-5 for sure, I think I recall seeing one in the crew area where the loadmasters would be. I didn't get to have the cushy flight job, I was on the ground pushing in and securing the cargo....you know the real job.

Now I remember seeing them in many places around the Galaxy,

Look in the upper Right Corner

And come to think about it I think this photo is totally staged, I never recall ANYONE with a flight suit bending over and doing any work

That's a somewhat ironic picture. How often do you see part of an airplane loaded into the cargo bay of the same airplane like that? :)

Wonder if they ever thought of making it into a flying flight simulator where the crew could fly the bigger plane from the cargo deck. :)

That section is from a C-5 that crashed while trying to land at Dover AFB
and it is being used for training. Amazingly, all 17 aboard survived.

That light is also installed in C-130 J Models. There are 8 installed in the aircraft. They dont recharge by the aircraft, they have 2 leads that turn the light on when the battery of the aircraft is turned off, to simulate a crash, then they activate to show you out safely. Also when you turn off the aircraft the lights activate, as they think the battery was disconnected in a crash, thats why there is also a Extinguish button in the flight deck that must be depressed each time you turn the battery off. The C-5 has this Extinguish button also.

There is a charger that must be used to recharge them out of the aircraft, but they run on rechargable batteries that one can buy at an electronic store.

It's an emergency exit light used on numerous types of aircraft including helicopters...not just C-5's.
