Barbie III in Greeley, CO. 08/23/08

Sat Aug 23, 2008 11:49 am

Barbie III flew into Greeley, CO. today for a 2 day visit. Here's a picture of Barbie III taking off for the first flight of the day. My apologies for the poor quality photo as I need to get a better lens.

very nice picture. Not bad at all.
Will she be up there until the DNC is over?

Thanks Bluedharma. I think the original plan was for Barbie III to stay up here all week, returning after the DNC was over. But I believe they're leaving tomorrow afternoon and are going to hanger for the week.

Temporary Flight Restrictions

Mon Aug 25, 2008 12:17 pm

Sad news for Barbie III to have to keep down all week for the DNC.
We have perfect skies... That can not be good for the revenue.
I looked at the TFR (Temporary Flight Restrictions). http://www.centennialairport.com/dnc and the Security & Airport Watch.

No way I will be going out there!!!
Does anyone know if they will be flying next Sat?

That sucks. some one call Osama/Obama, tell him to hold his **** somewhere else. Does JeffCo airport have the same restrictions? Maybe that could be an alternate airfield?

I understand that the DNC requires some security.
I think the 30NMR is a bit excessive...

I think that 30NMR covers JeffCo as well.

My hobby is taking pictures of warbirds... That hobby is on hold until these guys leave town.
I do not have a wish to "donate" my camera to the US Government...
Nor do I want to be detained until next week for photos because some local Boy Scout called me in.

But there are a lot of "Yahoos" out here from both side of the aisle... as well as some who do not live on this planet.
This may be for the best…
It must be hard on the Barbie III crew.
I myself can not wait until it is over.

I was in Boulder yesterday and read both notams re the TFRs. It does Not say you can't fly at Greeley. You have to have file a flight plan, have a transponder code and have radio clearance. It is the same as flying at Waco Mcgregor under Bush's TFR at Crawford. I know what that is like as I did my biennial flight review there recently. You also can't do touch and goes, or training flights, but you can do a flight out and back into the airport within the 30 nm mile ring. Cheney comes into Eagle a lot going to raise money at Vail, so we have to always check the notam. Finally according to the FBO at Greeley they are outside of the TFR area anyway so the B-25 could have flown there with no restrictions.
Denver normally has a 30 mile ring around it for Class B as the airlines don't want to share "their airspace". That Classr B, TCA, does affect virtually all the airports near Denver, Boulder, and even Longmont, Greeley, and Loveland, but you can go under it,down where it is nice and turbulent.

Only got out to the airport this sunday to see it take off, make one pass, and then head for Front Range in Denver to live out the week there until the DNC leaves town...got some video of the passes and then talked a member of the crew into selling me a T-shirt (I owe a Wings over the Rockies staff member $6 because I only had $14 on me for the shirt)....Denise, by contrast had dinner with Dick and Sherry Jones (Dick now flies the -25 after selling the T-6) and we have known the Joneses for about 18 years now, so she said it was good to see them...

Glad they had a successful if abbreviated stop and hope to see them/it up here again next summer....

I hear they have all the moonbats behind chainlink fences to keep them from protesting at the entrance to the convention.Very telling. They will be gone soon enough.

I thought there was only one Moonbat constructed, and it was destroyed by fire after a forced landing. A shame..the XP-67 was a cool looking bird. 8)
