Anybody have an update on Brian Reynolds Corsair restoration?
I believe it was to be completed by Summer 2008.

Last I heard, it was still up at John Lanes undergoing a ground up restoration.

If I'm not mistaken I think Brian's Corsair is at Airpower Unlimited in Jerome, Idaho under the watch of John Lane. I just talked to John the other day via e-mail. I'm due to send John an e-mail tonight, If I hear anything i'll pass it on. I'm sure someone out there has some more up-to-date info available.

A little up date on Brian's Corsair project (Bu.92436)! Major center section spar issues, ie. corrosion!! His is the first spar to go together using new manufactured parts. Duane Doyle's projects being restored by Aero Crafters in Santa Rosa will be the next with new parts!! Wings to go back in the fixtures for assembly, new overhauled R2800 by Ray Anderson. All of the back seat and side windows have been removed and the tail cone taken back to stock configuration. The center section spar is waiting to be put into the fuselage after a new firewall and fuel bay bulkhead replaced due to corrosion! At this point it appears the paint will be all sea blue.

Another note Mike Potter's FG-1D Bu.92106, ex- Gary Kohs has had new markings applied of "Lt. Robert Hampton Gray", ironically the same markings of Brian's as received from the Canadian Warbird Heritage before its restoration. Both aircraft were together under one roof at Airpower Unlimited at one time. Thanks for your interest! John Lane

You know what would look really good sitting in the OFM hangar with the Corsair once it's finished.

The Zero that's for sale in the current Trade-A-Plane.

But that's just my opinion.

That main spar looks like one big jigsaw puzzle. How many ga-zillion fasteners hold it together, anyway Oh wait, I know, it's all coming back to me now, lots and lots and lots

The OFM already has a Tora Zero in the Hanger.

I guess Brian could keep the Tora Zero around for comparison purposes or rides if he wants.

When you say "using new manufactured parts", how much of it is new? Is this the new spar which will allow many Corsair restoration projects to be completed to airworthy condition?

Is this new spar related to the supposed all-new manufacture ones being worked on down under somewhere (Murray Griffith's at Precision?). I thought that was supposed to be the first of the newly manufactured spars that were coming out?

A new wing spar for the Corsair is a HUGE deal, especially if it can be built to be rugged, reliable and not terribly expensive. Any more info you can provide on the new spars would be appreciated!

Not to take anything away from Murray Griffiths, he's coming along quite nicely as we have been communicating on this subject from the start of all projects. Complete center section spar parts have been manufactured in the U.S. for Duane Doyle's projects in Santa Rosa. Extra parts have been produced to help other projects in the future. Brian's Spar didn't need complete replacement of parts, all lower extruded angles needed replacing.
