On June 22, 1944, Joe's B-17 Shoo Shoo Baby (42-102472) was hit by flak. The hydraulic system and landing gear were damaged. The landing gear collapsed on landing, causing the plane to veer off the mats into an olive grove. Shoo Shoo Baby never flew again.

Thanks Django.
I already saw that photo taken after crash-landing, and here's another one:

You can see that it had no full 483rd tail markings (Y-star) at the time this photo was taken-only the red rudder.
So I'm trying to find out its tail markings at the time it was salvaged (June 1944). Did it got the group's full markings or no?
It would be nice if there is any photo of BABY's crash on which her tail is visible.

Chobi,

No photos, but according to the Heroes of the 483rd, two crew members, Cretors(Radio) and Morley(Gunner), were injured in the crash landing. Both were later killed on the ill fated Memmingen mission when the entire 816th was lost. Coincidently, my Dad's crew went over as replacement in the 816th.

According to Foreman's 'Nose Art Directory' there are published photos of 'Joanne', don't know where.
