Para drop at TOM 2008

Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:27 pm

What did everyone think of this? If you would like to see it again please make your feelings be known here in this thread. I understand it was quite expensive to arrange if you think it was worthwhile then the organizers of the show need to know this to take back to the rest of the board of directors.

I for one thought it was really good. Seeing jumpers wearing period outfits with round canopies was a first for me and I thought it was a great tribute to those early jumpers.

I thought it was fantastic, but I'm a little biased :D !

Jeff:

I thought it was really cool to watch. I was kind of surprised at the guy that didn't get a full chute and pulled the reserve (not that he did it, but that he HAD to do it)... Looked really good there.

I can say that you did one heck of a job there, very impressed with the whole set up (I mean except for the cloud, weather, 25kt winds, rain, etc....).

I think we are quite fortunate to have someone like you here in the group that can make things work.

THANKS

Mark H
PS: If you need help next year, let me know, I'll do something.....

Note TROOPER AT THE BOTTOM WITH 2 CHUTES......

If that chute don't open round
I'll be the first man on the ground
When I hit that old drop zone
Box me up and ship me home......

It was the top reason for me wanting to go but I could not attend due to a conflicting date with another event. I could not pass that one up. Maybe next year.

I loved it as well.
I think it would be awesome to tie that in with the battle reinactment as well but would be mighty difficult logistically.

I thought it was absolutely fantastic! One of the reenactors came by and gave my 6-year-old a piece of his parachute, which my son is still wearing around his neck like a bandana. Brilliant piece of showmanship on their part....

That scene of a sky full of green chutes brings back fond memories of Leap Fests at Ft. Bragg, NC (my birthplace) ...

Airborne, Airborne
Have you heard?
We're gonna jump
From a big ol' bird ...

Jump up, buckle up,
Shuffle to the door;
Then jump out
And count to four.

If that chute
Don't open wide,
I got another one
By my side.

If that one
Don't open well,
I got a one way
ticket to ...
SOUND OFF 1 ... 2 ...

--------------------------

Look up in the sky
and what do you see?
Big fat Phantom
F - 4 - E

Drop that napalm
From the Sky;
Watch ol' Charlie
Burn and Die ...

Don't give a darn
What the Peace Corps thinks,
I'm going out and smoke
Some Ch*nks ...

I would have loved to have been there, but it isn't that short of a drive to get there for me.

The pictures are great and gives me an idea of what it was like.

Cheers,

David

I was disapointed...

That Sunday they could not jump.

I thought it was very cool and would love to see it again some time. I was very happy TOM had them there tis year.

I guess I should post some pictures also.

Tim

More insight from the jumpers.

If that's how many that came out of 2 C-47's, I can only imagine what it would have looked like at Normandy or Market Garden

The thing that is difficult to picture is that those were very light loads relative to the number that would have been carried by C-47's during WWII operations. Size of the drop zones available and restrictions on the number of people on board (when we are using CAF aircraft) keep the numbers down at air shows. We have jumped as many as 15 in one stick on the big drop zones near our home base using our C-47.

I loved the drop. It was the first time I had seen it in person and it was wonderful. Please do it again!

I thought it was cool. It would be neat if they could do it twice during the day, maybe do a drop onto the battlefield in the morning and do the afternoon drop in front of the crowd. It would be really cool if they could get the paratroopers to drop onto the battlefield and then start the battle.
