Dick Sykes, Condor Squadron founding member has gone west.

Thu Aug 07, 2008 6:33 pm

Today was the memorial service for Dick Sykes, who was one of the founders of the Condor Squadron, based at Van Nuys. The memorial service was moving with a lot of folks in attendance. Fly bys were performed by Clay Lacy in his DC-3, Steve Hinton in the P-38, Matt Jackson flying Tom Cruise's P-51 Mustang and 15 members of the Condor Squadron. Dick flew P-38s in Europe during WWII, and later flew P-51s and DC-3s, among other aircraft.

Farewell Dick, blue skies and tail winds.

Soft landings Dick. May you rest in eternal peace.

Thank you for the magnificent photos.

The pilots made the photos easy. Although the last shot with all the Condors together, and the lead pulling up and out was hard to shoot. There weren't any dry eyes when Chris pulled up.

I thought that everyone should see the wonderful send-off that Dick got.
