This ones interesting......

24. WACO DSO - NC605N, #3006, 1929 (Hispano-Suiza, Model A engine)
WACO DSO – 1929 - NC605N, Ser. #3006, manufactured by the Advance Aircraft Co., Troy, OH, August, 1929. Engine: Hispano Suiza, Model A, 180 h.p. (Same engine as used in the WWI Spads)

This is a variant of the famous WACO 10 series. Powered by a wide variety of engines from 90 h.p. to 225 h.p. This was commonly called the HISSO WACO.

This airplane was purchased in 1939 by a young kid from Bluff Springs, IL, named Vincent “Bud” Castle. He learned to fly in it, and, in 1940, he joined the Royal Air Force and, with other American pilots, formed the EAGLE SQUADRON. He flew HAWKER HURRICANE fighters against the German bombers attacking Britain. When the U. S. entered the war, he was transferred to an American unit flying the P47 THUNDERBOLTS. He was killed while flying a P47 in April of 1942.

The antique airplane community lost a truly great person when Dennis went west. He will be missed by all who knew him. I really hate to see his collection break up but wherever the planes go, I hope they continue to fly.
