T-28 Armament Package

Sat Jul 19, 2008 5:51 pm

For casual light entertainment:
Installed per T.O. a NOS T-28A armament package. The A model only has one set of hardpoints per wing, but hey, they're hardpoints. As far as flying, the cost is about 10 knots for similar power settings. Thanks to WIX, was also able to get an operational N-9-1 gunsight as called for in the -1. There are also rocket rails that mount on the bomb rack, so if anyone can find some replica SCARs or WP's I'd be obliged...

Shown are the
1. bomb racks with 100# practice bombs
2. 50 cal gun pods
3. Gunsight and armament panel

Fortunately, the A does not have wet points, thus preventing me from running out and buying the wing tanks. :)

Allways look for the entrance where you least expect it. If you lthink it should be on the front of the hill .....look on the backside....so if you think it's on the backside look in the front..............are you confused yet?

Thanks to my WIX O-2 buds, I've found someone who already fabricates the two shot 2.75" rocket pods which were used on the later A models. These look to be similar if not the same 2 shot pods in the -1 and MM, and will fit the existing bomb pylon as they are supposed to.

I think these may be a very good XC display option, for as good as the 50 cal pods look, they really slow the little plane down.

I lose about 15-18 kts with 2x7 round launchers and 2x100 lbs bombs.

Yes, the bombs are appropriate as my O2 was modified in the field to drop bombs, but I cannot find out why

I'm finding that replica ordinance, even hollow and light, makes some difference in the way the plane flies. The twin 100# were also about 10 kts, but not near as draggy as the .50 pods. It would be interesting to know if the much more powerful B/C/D notice much change.

The A model T.O.'s show with the early style pylon/rack each pylon can be out fitted with the 100# bomb, triple rocket rails (which we have) for the 2.25" rockets, or the two-shot 2.75". The 'A' models can be fitted by T.O. with the (much) larger and versatile Aero 15D pylons like the later D's, but it seems a bit much.

Of course, none of the ordinance is wired. The N-9-1 gunsight is fully operational, though.

The 3 rocket rail that fits on the pylon is the same as used on the FAC T-6s. I **could** be persuaded to let those or the gun pods go for interesting trades or obscene offers of cash. :)

I am hoping that the two-shot 2.75" will add a little visual fun to the plane with the least effect on cruise as a good XC display.

Too bad you can't just have something tag along with you as your hack bird and carry all the cool ordinance. I'd never suggest you kick someone out of the back seat just to carry cool stuff. :)
