I never thought to see a photo on WIX of something my mother experienced. Mom's first husband was stationed at the Presidio for a time at the later stages of WWII, and she used to tell me how she would go out to the Golden Gate to watch the carriers and other ships coming back home after the war. In theory, she might just have seen your grandfather coming home, 262crew. Thanks for posting--it brought back a childhood story I'd forgotten!

Yes, and his Grandad Bud really was a wonderful individual. I had the pleasure of being his son-in-law for 20 years. Look up the definition of 'straight shooter' and there would be a picture of Bud.

My dad was absolutely somewhere in that picture! He joined the Navy in 1939 and served on the Sara from the time he left bootcamp to after The War.
He passed away August 2003, but I have his cruisebook from the war. It is rich with photos! I'll need to get a scanner someday so that I can share them with ya'll.

Sorry, except for the occasional name here and there, there are no names.
