Looks like there will be some sound in Idaho.
I guess you folks in Idaho better tape your windows.

By KBCI Web Staff BOISE - Treasure Valley's skies could get a little loud the next couple weeks.

Officials with the Idaho National Guard say that during the daylight hours from July 14-23, residents can expect to
hear some louder jet aircraft conducting training operations from Boise's Gowen Field.

The U.S. Marine Corps Marine Aviation Group 41 will be in town, conducting air and ground training operations at the Idaho National Guard's Gowen Field / Orchard Training Area south of Boise.

Aircraft used by this U.S. Marine Corps unit include the F/A-18 Hornet, which uses a high-performance, afterburning engine and the KC-130T Hercules cargo/air refueling plane.

The Ft. Worth, TX - based Marine Aviation Group 41 will take advantage of the unique training opportunities found in Idaho's high desert terrain, specifically in the large
Gowen Field / Orchard Training Area that lies between Boise and Mountain Home.

The Marines will use this two-week annual training period to hone their deployment skills in a variety of areas on the ground and in the air.
These will include rifle and pistol qualifications, martial arts, military operations in urban terrain, calling in airstrikes from the ground and improvised explosive device (IED) familiarization.

Flight training will include air-to-air combat operations, close air support of ground troops, rapid ground refueling, aerial refueling and interaction with other, local military flying units.

The Idaho National Guard hosts military units from around the nation at its Gowen Field / Orchard Training Area.
This year, a dozen different military units will come through to take advantage of its unique opportunities for conducting training in terrain that
closely resembles that found in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan operations).

Hi Zane,
Do you have any other VMF-112 photos or a PAO contact???
That's the squadron my cousin Don was flying F4Us with when he was KIA.
Except they were the Wolfpack back then.

I wonder why they changed from the Wolfpack to the Cowboys????

With all the military budget cuts the Marines can't afford paint? Or is that some kind of new radar absorbing stealth technology?

The squadron history says..."In July 1967, the unit changed it's name to the "Cowboys" ... to reflect the local Dallas Cowboys NFL team"
