Ft Lauderdale Executive in the late 70's

Thu Jul 10, 2008 10:21 am

I used to live in the Ft Lauderdale area back in the late 70's, and flew out of Executive airport with a co-worker and friend. Bob Bailey (a Cav Huey Pilot) and me (late 9th Div grunt). We would fly a Cessna 172 down to Marathon in the Keys and back. I used to wander around the Airport when and where I could. As I recall Elvis's 707 (Lisa Marie) was parked down at the East end and a Navy Cutlass there also. Over where the Whitington Brothers had a hangar there was a line of six T-28's that were in some kind of Quarantine due to there being flown in whithout clearing Customs. Also saw a hanger with a yellow A-1E and Corsair that was in pieces. The Whitington's had a P-63 and P-51. Anyone here remember that Airport?
