Hi all, I was just at the Santa Barbara airport, (we have a big fire going on again, we had the big DC10 dropping as well, what a sight, BTW is it a DC10?) I had a client fly in from LA today and he was telling me about a secret P-38 restoration going on that is in the states and is not Paul Allen's or any of the other we all here know a bit about. Anyone care to say "yes" or "no"? .... If it is a secret deal, I'm fine with that.

shhh, it's a secret

BTW, I know we have been through this before, but why again is it such a big deal (secret) for some who are in the restoration business to keep a lid on their projects? I can probably figure out a few reasons, but the real hard-core people like us (WIX etc.), I would tend to guess we would be a welcome list of people to share your project with .... IMHO

I'll give you a straight answer as I can't get one on the P-51.................... it is either "YES" OR "NO". These are the 2 answers you asked for. Right now my restoration is lacking a little. I have a genuine not a T-6 main, but real honest to God P-38 nose wheel. Just need to add a few more parts. Kind of like Gary and that F-8.

I had two main wheels....thats it....I gave them away so they would eventually end up on the recently recovered p-47 ...

There are medications and therapy to handle that. Just consult your local Health and Mental Hygiene Department.

Ya know, if they have the money to do the restoration, the dedication to get it done, and the ability to keep the secret within their core group of folks... more power to them! I know that we'd all like to find out progress reports, etc... but sometimes it's fun to pull a surprise! It'd be waaay cool for some brand new P-38 restoration to, say, show up at Osh next year and then announce the launch of a website with photos of the restoration process!
After all, more work will get done on the restoration if the crew isn't always coming here and checking the board, uploading photos, etc.!

And I'm on every one of them, I live in Southern Califoria, what would you expect? ...
Well, I think we'll find some surprises soon .....

Shhh..................Ryan the next thing someone will let it out of the bag about that secret P-43 and B-32 restoration going on here in San Antonio that are "Not" going to go to a local collector but will make a really great restoration thread on some secret website. PS don't let it out of the bag about the AT-10 restoration going on in Boerne either.

Hey, I get it .... relax .... No one likes to look like a fool here. Especially me .... we'll see what happens. If a new p-38 shows up somewhere, cool, if not .... who the F*ck cares .... thanks though for contributing. BTW, I was asking, not telling ....

Didn't mean to offend you Hellcat, the only P-38 I can think of is the one the CAF traded the P-82 for in the deal that the USAF Museum blew up. Is that still out there or assumed a new idenity or what?

I know you didn't .... I just have the ego, not the warbird ....

It might be secret unless you read the March 2008 issue of PACIFIC FLYER. There's a story of a "Plastic P-38" being built to use Chevy engines. The owner of "Lighting Aviation" FBO, Larry Buchanan says it needs "money mostly" to finish. And I don't know where or how much. It is supposed to have ac for all those gentleman pilots.
Could this be the one?
