Vietnam photos - USAF

First time I have ever seen a T-6 in Viet Nam. Where was that pic taken and time frame?

The T-6 photo appears to be closer to Korean War era vintage rather than Vietnam.

As both the USAF and USN had removed the T-6/ SNJ aircraft from their inventory by 1956 I would have to surmise that the photo was posted in error. The only other possiblity is that the T-6 was one of the many USAF aircraft "loaned" to the French during their Vietnam experience.

well, at least he's showing some restraint by not posting a million a day, and actually showing a picture instead of just a link. (even if they're not his)

Obviously no one in the forum has a clue....the USAF trained VNAF crews on T-6s in SVN... in the later 50s to early 1960s. Check out the USAF history of VNAF crew training..

Now that is past...so what does it take to please you narrow minded zealots?

Same T-6 photo on Ebay - seller seems to think it is Vietnam also - so who's right on this?

TA number would refer to a Mosquito ......right? Doesn't mean it didn't survive Korea and go to Viet Nam, but I thought the Air Force training took place in this country.

not necessarily

the "TA" codes were the buzz-code type designator for the T-6 aircraft (like "FF" for the F-51's).

the a/c in the above photo is a T-6G - these a/c were remanufactured from existing AT-6 airframes but issued new serial numbers. Of course some were used at Mosquito FAC aircraft in Korea [K.W.Z.] , but the majority was used in training in the Z.I., and many were given to Allied nations under MAP or MDAP contracts.

The large buzz codes of the 50s denoted type, manufacturer and the last three of the serial.

BC-696 = Bomber, Douglas, 44-35696.

a MOSQUITO would have "LTA" along with the last three of the serial to designate it.
