Olympia, Father's Day Weekend...

Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:29 pm

Here are a few random shots I got at the air show in Olympia over the weekend. I was displaying WW2 stuff so I didn't get good shots of the WW2 flying stuff, sadly. There wasn't much 'new' at the show this year. They flew their usual museum aircraft, not much WW2 in the air this year compared to the later stuff. Saturday had a C-17 doing fly-bys.

I was VERY pleased to see this take to the air several times over the weekend:

Part of the WW2 camp. It's not as big as the one at Reading, but the public loved it. My 1944 Jeep is just in the photo, in the bottom center:

…and the obligatory "high speed jet" shot:

Several people were overheard griping about the Corsair wasn't there this year. I also heard staff complaining about the airport taking away an active runway for construction and blocking off a lot of the grassy area, moving the "USO show" to within feet of the WW2 camp. Needless to say, as soon as that got underway, we packed up the camp and went to do our own thing as it was pretty loud. I have no idea what the attendance numbers were but I saw plenty of spectators both days.

Thanks for the kind words! If anyone else wants to see a couple more photos, this was my personal display and my 1944 Willys Jeep:
