Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:50 pm

So last month as I was passing through the airport I walk under the SBD dauntless at the Midway Airport. So I read about the aircraft and im not sure if i read right but was this plane pulled out from Lake Michigan??? And does it have the entire engine in it as well??

There have been quite a few wrecks pulled from Lake Michigan.

this is the registry entry for the SBD at Midway http://www.warbirdregistry.org/sbdregis ... 10575.html

I apparently don't fly out of Midway much, I had no clue they even had it there.

Denver Int'l Airport has a WW1 era Jenny bi-plane in the United terminal (if I remember right), as well as a Lear Jet another terminal. It's awesome what can be found at an airport while traveling. :D

yup thats the one. It hangs on the ceiling and looks pretty good to me for being in the lake so long.

In the summer of '84 or '85, I think, I saw a Dauntless from the Lake that was still on a flatbed trailer in P'cola. She was a Battle of Midway vet, as I recall. It gave me much pause to see several patches that looked like they were made from a beer can, in a real big hurry, after the mech had drunk the beer. They were real irregular cut outs with uneven riveting to match. What a testimony to the times and to her logbook.

There IS a Jenny at DIA in Denver, but more unique than that is the Carl Williams donated Alexander Eaglerock that Carl actually flew to the airport for its donation.....Carl is a great guy and we were privileged to fly with him once with the Eaglerock on a photo mission....unfortunately I don't have the pics with me to scan and put on show here....
