Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:03 am

Can anyone help me contact the owners or caretakers of the LA-9 that is for sale? I'd like to get some info on it.
Thanks

I will give you that info, if you promise not to destroy it by making a Reno racer out of it. It's much too rare to be modified. :D

All of the contact info you need is right here:

Just look in the inventory tab.

Pioneer Restoration limited in Auckland New Zealand are really the ones to talk to. The La-9 has been for sale for some time.

I am sure they will be very happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.

Still curious....

Still curious....that it has been for sales for so long now...???? Not that the systems should be prohibitive on maintenance cost or complexity.

I mean, the price seems fair considering the rarity & performances. OK, demand is lower than let's say a Bearcat or Fury...but still.

I would think it would make a good stable choice for a collector & even get it's share of airshow display request !!!! But then most of the crowd may not see the difference with a Yak-52.

My late boss, Ray Hanna, said it was the best heavy piston engined fighter he had ever flown, preferred it to the Fury.

Beautiful machine

I had the honor of getting to taxi the -9 under the expert eye of Nigel Lamb at Duxford while it was still there, but grounded due to the UK not exending it's airworthy certificate.
What a total monster!! Beautiful airplane. In flight I have never heard a more impressive throaty roar from a radial...makes the Corsair sound underpowered! It would be an inpressive addition to the airshow circuit, but the owner is going to have to be someone special, as it's the only one of it's kind, and the engine is the fighter version, not from a transport (AN-2), etc..so could be a bit of a maintenance headache...
Regrettably, I did not get to fly it, but saw it fly several times before it went down under..

a 4360 and some mods would make that a sweet racer....
