This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Heard there might be some P-47s left over in Cuba? If so, what kind of condition are they in? Any other info?

Where in Cuba?
I don't believe any Cuban P-47 survived the early years of Castro's rule, if at all.
Have you noticed that in a museum in Havana, they have a Mustang, a T-28 and a Kingfisher amongst other aircraft? Had a P-47 survived, it would have gone to the museum, IMHO.
Wouldn't it be great if in fact, there were P-47s left there?

There is also an early model T-34 behind the first fury. Tank not Mentor for those of you who are 'military vehicle challenged'. Cuba is loaded with WW2 stuff.

Cuba is loaded with WW2 stuff.
And that means what to us? We can't go there to see them and Fidel sure ain't gonna send 'em on the airshow circuit.

It is not supposed to mean anything, it is what is known as an observation.
Having a bad day?

Exactly. What he said.
I am sure that all the vehicles are spoken for, and by the time Don Fidel kicks the bucket, there will be a couple of car ferry's moving stuff to the nearest US port....

Once upon a time there was the same situation in Argentina regarding cars. They did not allow imports any longer so they retooled many American cars. I knew of a guy 30 years ago who had connections to export the vehicles.
Anyone know if the same exists with aircraft? Are there treasures there that await rescue?

Air Classics in the 80s had an article by a former FAC pilot who mentioned that a lot of the F-47s (as he called them) were lost in crashes, including one he crashed himself... maybe there are some wreck sites worth investigating?

From images I have seen, most of what remains in CUBA is in rather poor shape. Most of those "Pristine" vintage pieces are pretty patched and would be considered as parts cars here in the states. I am sure that any aircraft wrecks where most likely cleaned up and the leftovers reduced to scrap for recycling in a nation that is limited on resources.
Or, I can just say that there are fields after fields of vintage, pristine warbirds with two convertible chevy for everyone!
