Red Bull Air Race Detroit

Was at the world series race in Detroit today, which got cancelled due to wind gusts.

However, there was still lots of action in the sky, from the Harvard aerobatic team flying 3 yellow SNJ's, a flyby from our very own Yankee Air Forces B-25, to a Heritiage flight and flybys of an F/A-18 Superhornet with an F4u Corsair Night fighter.
The last flying action of the day was from the Red Bull Albatross.

Disappointed the racers got cancelled, but smiled ear to ear to see that Corsair skimming the water all out. It's totally different, seeing Navy planes with the water rather than an airfield, a very cool day for sure.

The actual race is tomorow, weather permitting. I'll be sure to update.

Great weather for the race today, and I caught my first sunburn of the year.

Seeing the Super Hornet buzzing the river at just under supersonic: awesome.

Those World Series pilots, are NUTS. Totally awesome weekend all around, and got my warbird juices flowing.

I was there Sunday on the Windsor side.
Outstanding demonstrations. I think I liked the demo's better than the actual racing.

You would have loved Saturday then, the Corsair demo was probably about 10 minutes, he flew a full routine.
All in all it was a great time, I hope they will be back next year.

Red Bull estimated that between the Detroit and Windsor shores, 750,000 people were at the race. From where I was on the Detroit side, the Windsor shore was packed for about a mile.

Roger that,
Next year (if they come back) we will be going back over to the Windsor side but won't be sitting in the ticketed area (blocked views by trees along the seating area).
Best seats in the house over there were on the south (west) end of the ticketed area. No obstructed views and it was free.

We were in Detroit Saturday for the race for the cure but didn't hang around when they were talking about the high winds. Wish I would have...a 10 minute demo with the Corsair would have been something to behold. That thing zoom climbs like a S.O.B!!!!!!
