North American Aviation's Dallas Plant

Does anyone know of links to find the history of the NAA plant in Dallas (Grand Prairie) during WWII? Here's the only information I could find. http://www.uaw848.org/archives.htm

Last spring I was at Midland when one of the WWII-era company photographers from the North American plant visited. He had a huge scrapbook of photos he and others in his department took documenting production and day-to-day life at the factory. B-24s, T6s, P-51s etc. were shown, as well as shots of smaller shops and assembly line areas. I don't know if he could be easily tracked down, and I didn't get his name. I know this doesn't help as far as getting the information in your hands, but I do know that it is out there. You might try the Grand Prairie municipal offices or their historical society if they have one, I've had some luck with other research projects by using that method.

My dad worked at NAA Dallas during the war.
I too have been on the search for stuff about the plant.
I have some items that he tucked away form his time there.

I would love to get that information as well. My Dad was foreman of the wing division in WWII and built the wings for the P-51 and B-25. I have been trying to find any information about the plant and work done there. Please let me know if anyone knows anything.

Scott...You might try looking up a fellow named Dick Atkins, he's one of the Vought historians and has been around a loooooong time. Mebbee he can help?

Rockwell destroyed much of the NAA Dallas Archives, so pretty much the only thing we
have left (from NAA Dallas) is what is out in private hands....

There was some remaining Rockwell stuff that funneled through Long Beach on its way to the historical folks in Seattle, to include the P-51 data I believe. I got a couple of wartime Jane's books they were throwing out. Some friends and I divided the whole late '30s - early '40s collection between us.

As a point of interest the NAA plant at Dallas received a contract to construct 692 Fairchild C-82 Packets. Three (3) were completed with the balance cancelled upon V-J Day. They were designated as the C-82N. Presumabley they were constructed in the floor space voided by the completion of the B-24 production run.

I have interests in the Dallas NAA plant as well. Been working on expanding my limited knowledge base on the B-24, including production plants where it was assembled.

A correction (or two) for your site. The second picture is listed as B-24 assembly line at Willow Run. It is actually at the San Diego plant (San Diego Plant 2). The pic captioned simply as Consolidated B-24 assembly line is at the Fort Worth plant.
