Nice stuff Jack.

Note the single antenna in the early striped tail photos and the twin antenna in the VLR solid tail markings.

I still haven't seen a photo of a green striped tail 457th FS, 506th 51 with twin antenna, just solid green.

Jack do you have any photo's of Capt. Abner Aust P-51D ?

No, I don't like convicted felons  :?

Abner Aust....felony???? Google here I come.

Great photos!

Mr. Cook where do you get such wonderful vintage pics????

edit* solicitation for arson and murder? Ouch. Seems Mr. Aust is quite the character!

Aust is no stranger to controversy in Polk County. In the 1980s, living in the Green Swamp, he started collecting tires and eventually accumulated millions of them, covering acres of land. The state finally wrested legal control of the tires from him and disposed of them.

Bummer

????

I was told he had upwards of 25 acres of tires 15' high  They were so infested with mosquitos that the county had to take control and clean it up at taxpayers expense because it was such a health risk. He married his 3rd wife in the court house on the same day he was sentenced to prision.
