Bell YFM-1 Airacuda - pics wanted

Wed May 07, 2008 2:36 am

Hi All,
Can anyone help with high res photos of the Bell YFM-1 Airacuda, suitable for publication (not just shots off the web). PM or e-mail to JKightly AT yahoo.com.au , or post answers here!

The normally reliable Peter Four Oh and Jack Cook seem to have missed this one... - there's a challenge.

TIA,

I could do a higher res scan of that one I posted a while back if you wish?

Cheers,
Chris

I would never fly in that thing. If the guys in the pods ever had to bail out they would run into the props!!!

that plane had HUGE pitch and oscillation problems associated with the pusher design.

None from me but I've got a great shot of a Wildcatfish!

Wed May 07, 2008 8:12 pm

there was an opening in the the fuselage to the nacelle for the gunner to crawl through to bail out, he must have had to scramble to get out successfully!!! never saw an airacuda on tricycle gear..... it looks even more cool!! jdk.... send me your email address, i have two pics which i believe are unpublished or rare of the airacuda that i'd be glad to send you.

Blast. It was meant to be a secret. :D

Sort of. It's an amazing array of oddities, isn't it? I reckon my award for 'worlds' words aircraft' of the year has to go to the Airacuda.
