Mon May 05, 2008 7:14 pm

Just some bumps and bruises - VERY lucky from the pics.

Not a good start to the warbird season.

Yikes!

Glad to hear the pilot is ok. If anyone ever had any doubts about the benefits and strengths of the tube frame cockpit section of a T-6/SNJ, these images should go a long way.

Oh well.....one less T-6 gracing the skies of the U.S.

It kind of depresses me a bit! :(

Geez, lucky pilot to walk away!

Just ask Jim Mott who flew into the ground at Reno one year.

This airplane belongs (or belonged to) John Zayac, president of the T-6 Racing Association. John is a good guy, works very diligently for the T-6 Racing Association, and was very helpful to me as a new guy at Reno last year. John and I just had dinner in Denver last week. He told me that he was probably going to fly this airplane to Reno this week to facilitate delivering it to the new owner. I am certainly glad that John appears to have come out of it OK.

Glad that John is ok.

I am very glad that John is ok.
That is all that really matters.

And a couple more shots of John over the years at Reno. John is a good guy -- we are very glad he's OK...

Local Denver tv says John was on his way to Reno. Possible engine failure, weather is great today. He went down out in the country, not flat ground. He kept his head, went in gear up it looks like. The fuselage is completely separated from the wing and is upside down. It looks really bad, but closer inspection shows that steel tube cage around the fuselage held. He previously had an engine failure and landed on a big street in Denver, perhaps in 2000, with no damage. He did some engine repair and flew it out and on to the races. I know John, though not well, and am glad he got out walking. They built em good back then. If you look at the small photo above looking at he tail, it is at Boulder last year and that is my Spitfire in the background just over his right wing tip.
