F-8 Mosquito

Gentlemen,

The photo shows de Havilland Mosquito F-8, serial number 43-34926 that was ferried over the north Atlantic to the UK and then to the MTO by Major James Setchell and Capt. Jerome C. Alexander, his navigator. Major Setchell received a DFC award for flying an F-8 at low altitude on 16 and 17 Jamuary 1944 "through accurate intense flak with repeated hits on his aircraft to successfully complete a PR Mission."

Previous published reports of Major Setchell being shot down in an F-8 is incorrect. According to his son, this officer was shot down while flying an F-5 Lightning over Italy.
