Recovered Bf-109f-4 of Maj. Horst Carganico Wk. Nmr. 10256

Just got done reading the book "Warbird Recovery " by Gordon R. Page. The book ends with him getting a 109 back to Boulder, Colorado from Russia and starting restoration......Book published in 2005.
Anybody know how it's coming along? Anybody got any pics? not many pics in the books, plane looks pretty rough....

Not sure how current the info is, and there weren't any pics.

The Me262 Project has a project section dedicated to this Bf 109 and another Bf 109 on their website. The current info consists of aircraft history and photos of the wreckage, but no information or updates on the restoration. I assume that any new updates will be added to this website. It does mention that one of the Bf 109s is for sale.

I don't believe they've even started on the restoration in Washington yet. One of our Seattle forum members (262crew or The Inspector) gave an update on it and said that only a few parts had been transferred from Colorado to Seattle. I get the impression that it may be quite a while before we see that airplane fly.

We have 10144,s tail section with the data plate still attached to the structure. There are a few bullet holes

in the rudder and vertical

we have also obtained a full set of production drawings

let me tell you it is so much easier to use the metric system :!:

Progress is slow due to other " things " happening right now at the project. But shhhhhhhhhhh I didnt say a thing :!:

10256 is at our Spirit of Flight Center museum in Colorado. In addition to 10144 in Everett, we also have Wrk. Nmr. 10145. The intent is to build up two- keep one and sell/trade the others. We are planning a new facility at Erie, Colorado Airport and will have 10256 on display there. Visit www.spiritofflight.com FMI. Sales of the Warbird Recovery book go to the restoration, so buy a bunch! Reviews of the book on Amazon are appreciated.

We are planning a new facility at Erie, Colorado Airport and will have 10256 on display there.

Is that Tri-County airport? I remember that was a neat place. Back in the early '80s I worked at a restaurant there made from an old Convair 990 (it's long since been scrapped.) That was at the hieght of the ultralight craze, and there were several dealers/instructors and a dedicated ultralight field on the airport, as well as a lot of homebuilts and some classic '50s and '60s vintage lightplanes on the ramp.

The old Tri-County (48V) is now Erie Municipal Airport (KEIK).

There are some amazing new homes at the airport and we are developing 58 acres on the West side (Fly-In Industrial).

Unfortunately the old Convair restaurant went to pop can heaven... It was a really neat place. Does anyone have any photos???
