I enjoy this idea, and i think it would be amazing to see done. But how many 17's were you thinking? If i could see three G model forts together in the same scheme, i think that would make my day.
But what about temp paint jobs? Like the ones found on the FHC's P-40c, and the Pearl Harbor B-25s?
Just seems like with some cooperation from the parties at hand, they are at an advantage to make more money together than apart.

Probably, just a matter of money. Look what they did for the movie Memphis Belle seventeen years ago.

That would be neat, but I don't see it ever happening. Too expensive.

This is strictly illegal per the FAA.

What markings would be most marketable? I mean, which groups are best known? The 91st Bomb group? The Bloody 100th?

Sorry. I guess I could've worded that a bit better.

Well that depends. YOu are not allowed to carry paying passengers on formation flights. At least this is how I understand the FAR's to read. But if you don't charge admission, and ask for a donation, wouldn't that change? The passengers are no longer paying for a ride. THey donated money and in turn you gave them a ride.

Interesting...
Do they have some "specific" clause in their flight agreement?
I asked about it 2-3 weeks ago regarding the Sentimental Journey and Aluminum Overcast being in Denver at the same time this June.
Aluminum Overcast contact said, Our..."FAA exemption prohibits that with passengers on-board"
I assumed that this prohibition was in regards to payment or not.
Can they do this when donating a flight? I just thought it was illegal.

Yeah, I'm not sure. The way I read it it was just for paying customers. YOu can not do it in a Part 135 Operation. But this is just how I thought it was, maybe someone else here is more up on it.

Ok, here's the FAR - 91.111(c) says: "No person may operate an aircraft carrying passengers for hire, in formation flight."
Now, I'm guessing that there must be some kind of way around this - otherwise some photo flights might be considered illegal, but I would think that even if the passengers were technically not "hiring" the aircraft but donating to the cause, that the FAA and any courts involved would rule that the flight would not have taken place unless money was exchanged...

Yeah Ryan, that is just what I was thinking.

Is the B-17 CO-OP still a viable organization? ( I think I remember hearing that they met last year in Oshkosh...they might be the one's to approach.
Maybe I should E-mail Chuckie and see if they would be interested.
