WIX HQ West Coast Tour 2008

Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:21 am

Okay, not so much a tour as multi-stop visit. Thanks to the generosity of a bunch of WIX members (you know who you are, and thanks). I will be making the journey to the left coast in May, with the final target being Chino, CA. I will be travelling to Phoenix to gather up Ryan Keough (associate editor) and visiting Tucson, AZ as well (can't miss going to Pima Air & Space Museum again!). So if your in the area and want to get together for lunch, dinner or just a beer, sound off and we'll see what we can do.

Also, at least one of the nights in Chino, after we get out of the POF airshow, I would like to get a bunch of WIX members together for a "debriefing" at a local restaurant/bar. Suggestions for this venue would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, I will also be bringing a camcorder, and will be creating a vlog for this event.

Scott, if you come to Tucson before May 14 I will be glad to take you and Ryan on a tour through PASM. On May 14 I am having a knee replaced and will be unavailable that day.

sorry to hear about your knee Bill, good luck with that and speedy recovery.

Unfortunately I will be arriving Tuesday night (the 13th) so I probably won't be going down until the 14th or the 15th. Maybe next trip when your all healed.

Scott,

On a previously buried posting for Chino http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... ht=#193644 there was a suggestion for a Friday night dinner, as lots of us head for home on sunday, due to that nasy thing called work on Monday. Will this pre-show dinner happen for those not local to the area?

I am hoping to do WIX dinners on Friday & Saturday nights, so hopefully there will be one that people can attend. We still need suggestions for venues as well.

Sorry I wont be in Town, but Ill be recovering that C-47 and will beflying her home on 18 May in Camarillo,Ca, up north from Chino. Will be the first time in 52 years she returns to the states. If you guys are still in town you should come up to join the fly in. Our B-25 will be escorting her into the airport!

She was in the 64th Troop Carrier Group of the 12 th AF during WWII, and was stationed in Italy and Burma at times. Spent 9 months in the war zone before becoming part of an Operation to bring troops home from the war front via teh southern route of the Bahamas!

Watch my C-47 Restoration thread for up to date information.

Well, I arrived in PHX last night after a quite nice plane ride (I love unassigned seating on flights that aren't full). Today me and Ryan are off to visit the CAF and Falcon Field and some other places with Warbirdy goodness. Tommorrow we are off to Pima!

Matt Gunsch and I kept Scott and Ryan pretty busy today at Stellar Airpark and Falcon Field so I'll help you out Lynn. It's about 2 hours from Phoenix to Pima. Or about $50 in gas, whichever you prefer. It is definitely a kick*ss museum though. Be prepared to spend at least four to five hours there.

Today was a blast, finally quashed that warbird drought I've been suffering in the Northeast. Thanks to Chris and Matt for coming along, the conversation was interesting and I'll never think about Sponge Bob without remembering today ;)

Tomorrow we're off to Pima so that should be a lot of fun.

Maybe after dinner tonight I'll post some pictures of the days adventures.

Scott, It was a pleasure meeting you and Ryan today. It will be interesting to see how Ryan's camera faired after the torture test we gave it.
