OT: First Photos of HMAS Sydney Wreck

Thu Apr 03, 2008 3:37 pm

For those of you following this fascinating bit of WWII naval history, the Finding Sydney Foundation has just posted the first photos of the wreck recently located with sonar -- confirming that it is the Australian light cruiser that sank with all hands following a desperate battle with the German commerce raider Kormoran.

The ship, while heavily damaged in the fight, appears to be remarkably intact and recognizable.

Amazing. Thanks for posting. Makes you think of all the souls who went down with her. At least there may be a little closure now for surviving relatives.
