I kinda think that one was staged: mainly because of the camera in the plane without the wheel!

It amazes me how foolhardy people were in the 1930s. I doubt she had any safety equipment at all! I wonder how many people were lost performing stunts like that for just a few dollars, if anything!

How come this isn't in the "base theatre".

I mean, fairs fair, right?

Or, do double standards exist?

in the first segment it looked like she was putting on a parachute - then they seemed to be hooking the wheel onto a harness???
as for being foolhardy - who knows what people where feeling back then? pretty grim times and a few dollars were pretty hard to come by. maybe we'll know again if things continue along the same path as they are currently. I know a lot of desperate people who feel their options in life are diminishing. (not that you would feel for them . ..)

My mistake... Mr. Moderator, please move this to the Base Theater!

As to the double standards, I don't know. Is this question directed at me or someone else? I can't recall the last time I posted a link to a video, I just plain forgot.

Whoa! Kind of harsh. What did I do to deserve that personal attack? :?

I guess that people with "sky" in their user names have it in for me today!

oh c'mon. your old sig line - something along the lines of "i would feel for you but i'm consumed with apathy . . ." (forgive if i misquoted) I didn't mean it as an attack, only a jest at your your very freely stated conservative opinions posted on this site.

The 13 Black Cats were amongst the first Flying Stunters/Flying Circus'. Based in Los Angeles in the late teens and early 20's.
Gladys is not wearing any harness other than the sling to transport the tire, of course it was staged!
You may have seen another photgraph of the 'Cats where two guys are playing tennis on the top wing of a Standard trainer, they did almost all the very early movie flying stunts and to a man and woman, among the cleverest and bravest wing walkers/ stunters ever because in most cases, they did it first.  8)
