Doolittle Raider, The Rev. Jacob DeShazer

Sun Mar 23, 2008 5:50 pm

The Reverend Jacob DeShazer, Doolittle Raider, P.O.W., Missionary, has passed away, I just found out(local paper), on March 15th, at the age of 95. He was the S/Sgt. bombadier on crew 16, under Lt. William G. Farrow, and was captured after parachuting over China.

Another of my heroes gone :(

With respect,
Robbie

Graveside services are next Saturday. I'll be there with some friends.

Jacob DeShazer married my grandfather's cousin, Florence, from Toddville, Iowa. He gave my grandmother a copy of his book which she gave to me. Amazing firsthand account of the raid, his time as a POW and his missionary work in Japan after the war. An amazing man.
