All I know about this is that it was taken in Canada while the P-39 was en route to Alaska.

Definately hasn't been turned over to the Russkies yet. The white disc/red star was a delivery marking, and the VVS always painted out the white area with whatever green was handy (often misinterpreted as blue on model decal sheets.)
