Thunder Over Reno movie

Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:54 pm

Does anyone know anything of the tentative schedule of release of the movie "Thunder Over Reno"? I remember reading about the making of it in a back issue of Warbird Digest and then it dropped off the radar until a mention of it in the most recent issue.
Anybody heard anything?

Like Eric said, TOR was "premiered" at last year's Reno Air Races. It was only a "rough draft" version though, so it was not a true real premiere. Because it still needed work, many people have unfairly characterized the movie. One thing for certain though, is that it has PHENOMENAL air to air footage in it. For the movie, they took a highly sophisticated gyro stabilized movie camera and mounted it on a helicopter and followed the racers throughout the course.

There is a DVD entitled "Racing Reno" which follows Bob in the F2G and Gerry in the A model around the pylons for Reno. Needless to say it's spectacular, with some of the best aerial shots I've ever seen. This is no "Cloud Dancer". This DVD has a lot of outtakes and aerial scenes which never made the final cut for TOR. I bought the DVD last year and it's one of the best aviation DVD's I've ever bought. Truly stunning footage!

I knew from the get-go that it wasn't necessarily accurate from the story line point, but I want to see the air-to-air stuff. Try to take it for what it is, a made up story and just enjoy the flying.
