Hughes S-43 Flying Boat Pics

Howdy all, I've been lurking for some time, finally had to post something ... and while I'm at it ask a dumb question. But first, the photos are posted in the Photos forum:

Dumb question: is it a sin to post here only to say I've posted pix over there? I would think so, except that's where snapshots belong, and I happen to know a lot of folks -- like me, for instance -- tend to pretty much limit their "WIX experience" to this, the Hangar forum. Thus the heads-up here...

Whatever, there are pictures of the flying boat over there, and if I've messed up by announcing it here, just strafe me once and I'll take the hint.

Brian... some truly fabulous photographs here (on your main site). Thanks very much for sharing! Incidentally, where do you normally work from, and what aircraft do you commonly use as photo-ships. I say this as someone who enjoys doing the same thing. It's always nice to compare notes.

No sin at all Pogo, the S-43 might have been better placed and seen more appreciation in the Vintage Forum,
but its connection to the Spruce Goose definitely qualifies it as Warbird Information worthy of exchange.
You probably performed a great service to the WIX by bringing more attention to the Photo Forum.
I was surprised to learn in Jack's "Querstions" thread that some members didn't have a clue there was
a Photo Forum.

As for Jack's "Querstion" thread..I went to get a gallon of milk..I come back and log in, and it's gone!! Sigh!!!

I agree the S-43 is "Heavy Metal" enough for us in here, and certainly interesting enough to be posted regardess.

But strictly speaking this particular S-43 IS A WARBIRD, as it was impressed by the USAAF during WW2.

42-1 Sikorsky OA-11
C/n 4314. Civilian S-43 purchased by USAAF. Was originally NC16925.
W/o after crashing during flight to Trinidad, date unknown.
Recent article in Air-Britain lists this plane as c/n 4327, built as
S-43H for Howard Hughes, originally NR400 and later NX700. Impressed
for Army Corps of Engineers Jul 1941. Crashed on Lake Mead, NV
May 17, 1943 but salvaged and rebuilt. To NX440 Apr 28, 1944,
later N440, still current.
