VTOL Spitfire...well almost.

In the early 1950's the Brazilians, under the direction of Professor Focke, designed and built a VTOL craft using a large proportion of Spitfire XIV RM874.

It never actually flew and was kicking about the Technical Institute at Sao Jose Dos Campos in the 1970's but was finally scrapped, sadly before the Spitfire parts could be rescued.
