VF-80 F6F-3 on Tico

Fri Feb 29, 2008 12:53 pm

Guys, I have a request.

A friend of mine was in VF-80 flying F6F-3s on the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) in 1944, Jan 1945 squadron shifted to the USS Hancock (CV-19) after the Tico was Kamakazed. He got to ride out Adm Halsey's Typhoon and flew on the first Tokyo carrier raid. What I'm looking for are any Group shots of VF-80 pilots during that timeframe.

I've looked in the usual "places". Jack Cook and others here have come up with some astounding group photos from the big WW and just looking to see what folks might have stashed away.

Attemping to put together a little something for this fine gent.

Regards
Steve

Hey NC,
My late father was the assistant air officer on CV-19 from May 1945 until it was decommissioned in 1946. I have a few "Fighting Hannah" magazines published about the happenings on board ship and a few photographs. I'll take a look and see what I can find for you.
