Rare view of A6 early ship build at airshow

Rare photo for a 1961 aircraft .. very nice.

Note no refueling probe or boom on tail. The VTOL rare movable tailpipe also was on girst 11 pre ships

It is an A2F-1 Intruder, bureau number 148616.

It sure looks clean.

The later version, A-6A Intruder had the re-fueling probe that gives the aircraft an even more distinct nose. The EA-6B Prowler is a four seater, 40 inch stretch on the fuselage with more powerful engines.

Further along there is an L-19 with a C180 looking tail on it. I never saw that before.

That's a Cessna model 321 (military designation was OE-2, later redesignated O-1C). It was similar in appearance to the Bird Dog
but used C-180 components (wings, empennage, new fuselage, etc.). Not many were built....

is the aircraft labeled "97-C3-25 1961 Lockheed P2V with Target Drones" actually a Neptune? It looks like an Invader to me. Whatever it is, I love the colour scheme.

That O-1 almost looks like a Siai Marchetti SM1019E with a piston engine. Compare with:

The P2V/B-26 is a Navy version called a JD1 and it's painted in a utility squadron "VU" colors.

Unless I missed a photo in the group, I didn't see a PBM...there are a couple of shots of a P5M Marlin.... The photo tags are for the P3M, which were built in 1931-32 time period and obsolete and on the way out of use within a year or so.
