Is that a window or is the hatch just open?

Jack see the picture of the Swedish P-35 in the other thread for the hatch.

Probably July of 1941. The 20th Pursuit didn't get to the Philippines until November of '40. The airfield is either Nichols or Clark. Note the hanger in the backround. Del Carmen was just a dirt strip and was opened just before the war started. It was used by the 34th Pursuit until the 2nd week of December '41.
Harrison "Spec" Hughs: 20th Pursuit Engineering Officer. Flying School Class 41-B. Surrendered on Bataan. MIA October 24, 1944. Was on POW ship
Arisan Maru sunk in South China sea by an American submarine. 1800 POWs on board, 1795 died.
The plexiglass hatchcover was for the baggage compartment. The last P-35A on Bataan flew out to Mindanao on April 8th with 2 men in that compartment.

The caption on the original says Del Carmen Field July 1941.
BTW for you historically minded people....it was Lt Hughes and 4 enlisted men who salvaged and made airworthy a J2F Duck known has the "Candy Clipper".
BTW I* have quite a few 20th PS photos

Jack:
You're right about the date. My apologies. I'd love to see more 20th photos. Never saw the one of Hughes before.

This reminded me of a shot I took of the Chino AT-12:
Great Pics! Thank you for posting images of the P-35.

Thanks Jack. Great shots. About 6 years ago I was lucky enough to meet
some former ground crew members from the 34th and 17th Pursuit in the Philippines and worked on P-35As.

Parker Gies's widow Loeta was one of our family's dearest and closest friends.
I used to put her Christmas tree up every year and learned the fine art playing Croquet from her.
