Aussie Mustang mix

Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:12 am

As part of the RAAF Museum's Pageant, a three RAAF Mustangs flew formation (practice today, for real tomorrow) and although all CAC built postwar Australian examples, show an unusual combination of schemes. Despite three different roundel types, they are all in RAAF colours.

The Pay/Hourigan Tyabb, Vic based machine is painted as a North American example as seen in 3 Sqn RAAF camouflage colours in Italy.

The RAAF Museum's is also pretending to be a NA Mustang, in postwar BCFO colours, while Bob Eastgate's VH-BOB is in, I understand, its own scheme, plus a civil reggo.

Waiting to go:

'Bee Oh Bee' has just acquired a set of Korea era style rockets as well. Finished yesterday, seen today. Has anyone else operated a warbird Mustang with rockets?

Hey James,

Those are some more great pictures! I wish I could have been there. I've never seen that many P-51's in one place before.

And, there's something about Mustangs wearing rondels that just look GREAT!

Cheers,

David
