Heading to Florida...

Mon Feb 11, 2008 12:16 pm

Hi!

I'll be flying to Florida on March 1st, and will probably go visit Fantasy of Flight and I'm wondering if there's anything to see in Kissimmee. I know there's Stallion 51, but is it possible to visit anything?

The people at Stallion 51 are really nice. That is worth the trip. Fantasy of Flgiht is of course awesome as well.

Chuck Gardiner is down there with the T-6s.

And literally up the street from Stallion 51 is where this FW-190 is being restored.

Exactly my point. Is it possible to go and have a look?

I am currently working on the Florida section of the Locator so there may be changes and updates over the next week.

Is this new museum at the same location where the Flying Tigers Warbird Restoration Museum was?

The new museum is in the new Warbird Adventures hangar next to the old Flying Tigers museum which has been closed for 3.5 years.

Ollie,

The EAA has a very interesting museum (Sun-n-Fun) with a Convair Delta Dart outside the main building, and many home-built, ultralight and experimental aircraft on display. It is located at the Lakeland-Linder airport.

Well, the museum closed down and the property was sold to a warbird collector. The property was cleaned up and renovated, and it has been dormant ever since (years). Meanwhile, we have grown and expanded our facilities next door and acquired more airplanes to display and fly. Kissimmee is a very active place for warbird flying and you never know what you will see.

...and Chuck was a gracious and extremely helpful host on my visit to the area, Ollie. Note well. ;) Thanks again, Mr G.
