"THE PACIFIC" Mini-Series News

Thu Feb 07, 2008 12:31 pm

Gang, Here's some interesting News Reports on the long awaited Hanks/Spielberg WW2 Mini-Series "THE PACIFIC".
The most expensive TV production ever made.
There will be 10 episodes & 1 is rumored to be entirely devoted to the USN Air War...

I like the perky "City" Breasts better than the "Studio" Breasts:

Now all the fat "Easy" 506th re-enactors will become fat Marines and USN Aviators... Leave us ETO re-enactors in peace... Thank you, Steven Speilberg!

THIS IS GOING TO ROCK! Again it’s Spielberg and Tom Hanks at the helm. “Band of Brothers” was, for me, THE BEST made for TV series of WWII ever produced. About WWII movies I classify them as before and after “Saving Private Ryan”, that is, for me again, THE BEST movie ever made about D-Day. And Spielberg ALWAYS portraits exact aircraft in his films. They are not T-6 disguised as Val bombers. Now you got me REALLY anxious… :D

I like Dale Dye's hidden little "secret" details, like the USMC EGA insignia worn on the left collar on the HBT's...
As seen in the 1st Film Clip & discussed in the book "With The Old Breed"...
Ah Yes, I'm sure that every WW2 USMC Reenactor will be doing this, right after they see it...

I've been Reenacting WW2 USMC since the early 1990's...
Here I am getting killed by a Japanese. My hands were full of groceries at the time, so I couldn't fight back:

Yes, I also like Spielberg's use of accurate WW2 Warbirds in His films. However, I hope He gets the flight jackets right this time.
I've seen some really horrible AAF & USN Flight Jackets in some of His films like "Empire of the Sun", etc.

Semper Fi.... Digger

Ya know, the sound effects for the machine guns etc for the Normandy landing in Saving Pvt Ryan, were done in Gwinnett County, GA., using the actual weaponary, and bullets striking real steel for the plinking, The beach landing scene in saving Pvt Ryan was the most realistic I believe I have ever seen.

Full Metal Jacket. Then again, you've got R. Lee in that one to make up for Dale's absence. :)

Not sure if you guys are aware that Dale Dye has been writing a Blog about "The Pacific" since the beginning of the production.

Usually updated once a week or so, and makes for some interesting reading.
