This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Recently there were reports of sightings of something flying in central Texas near Stephenville, which is a small town about 40 miles south east of Breckenridge. I can't recall all the facts, I think it may have been lights at night, but they were seen by a number of people, so it is likely something was there and the description did not seem to fit a known airplane. The military first said they had no planes there, now claims it was 10 F-16s. So what is the truth? Are the Unidentified Flying (or Floating and Flashing) Objects now Identified as normal F-16s? Is it likely 10 of them were training together and at night? Or are they still UFOs?
Most interesting to contemplate; does Ezell Aviation have a "Skunk Works"? And by "skunk", I am not referring to those smelly cigars Howard likes to smoke. Come to think of it, there are a few large hangars at BKD that I have never seen the inside of. What better place than out near a small town to hide a secret govt project? Anybody got any good facts? Wait a minute, to heck with the facts, anybody got any good rumors?

I was at Wright Patterson the day after Christmas. I go the security clearance increased some and they let me into one of the vaults (NO CAMERAS there). I was quite impressed with what was there and what used to be there in the past. (The late 40's)
The way I understand it, it all revolves around the need to know. It really amazed me how many people basically walked past there everyday and didn't have a clue what was on the other side. Nearly a "hide in plain sight" like the bunker at the Greenbriar in WV.
If you want to hear some more, drop me a PM.

Can't you just call the Mothership and ask which of your wingmen were flying that night?

Wingmen or wingnuts?

Eric or ED,, I am a Democrat, not a Scientologist, no contact with Motherships. Hey, and why didn't you tell us you had a famous twin Brother on a TV talk show? And since it is a perfect blue sky, 25 degree, fresh snow day here, I'll be out skiing while you guys think up some more darts.

Are we past the point where we can make a joke?
Ok, I'll bite, which TV show?
Glad your'e not a Scientologist, one thing at a time, I don't think Xenu is taking UFO calls anyway.

I think Eric and Bill should arm up your aircraft and get to it once and for all

.
Then maybe we could all get over the political crap.

How is joking about aliens political? I haven't mentioned politics in over a year. It's a total waste of time.

Well one fact I do have is the USAF base was contacted there right away, and they responded with "No we have no aircraft flying tonight". Then after the UFO story hits , they come back with "Oh wait now that you mention it we did have some F-16's up, like 10 of them". Now I don't know where I stand with the UFO stuff, but that seems pretty strange.

Not really.
There is not one omniscient central brain that knows all in the AF. Every Public Affairs officer doesn't have access to every flying squadron's schedule every day. MOAs are used by many different units. He11, even within one unit people don't know all. If asked right now, I couldn't tell you with 100% certainty where everyone in
my squadron flew yesterday -- and I was on the flying schedule. If RAF Lakenheath was asked if we were flying over East Anglia, we could only tell you what WE were doing...not any of the other USAF units in the country or even USAF units in Europe (who also fly over England's airspace).
So, they may have asked one organization, who replied with, "nope, we weren't flying that night"...when in fact maybe another unit WAS flying in the MOA that night.
It would be nice if PA officers were able to know all, see all, and tell all...but the fact of the matter is that they don't.
It's probable that the original person who made the original statement just didn't do all of their homework before saying something. Then, when there turned out to be a bunch of brouhaha about the event, they actually went back and found out the real info, and perhaps even had access to information they didn't previously have.

Actually I was refering to Bill more so about the political talk, I tend to agree with you about it being a waste of time.
I wonder how a Spad would do against a Spit? I,m sure it could take alot of hits before it would be damaged.

I guess this might be a good place to interject this story.... I visited the Navy museum at Pensacola. The story the docent told me was: This woman sees an E-1 Tracer (stoof with a roof)flying overhead and calls the local military base and exclaims,"A UFO just flew over my house and it has captured one of your planes!!!" The reply, " Don't worry ma'am, they usually bring them back before dark"
I used to spend a lot of time day and night looking at the sky. Daytime looking for airplanes and nighttime looking at the stars/planets. I've seen some weird things I can't explain. But most of it likely has a mundane answer.

In addition, the two "good" videos of the event that were posted show aurora, not anything unusual, although a-typically bright, they were still aurora, and they were taken at night instead of in the evening before sundown. There are several pictures posted proporting to show them, but I've not seen aything remotely conclusive to be anything but dust on the lens or something like that because it's so small, you can't really tell what it is if anything.
Here's the other thing, there were quite a few non-military aircraft in the area at the time. None reported seeing anything unusual. I find it interesting that people on the ground see something but pilots don't. If there was something to it, we'd be getting reports left and right from GA and airline pilots who were in the area talking about it.

Has anyone looked at a map to see if the sightings took place within a designated MOA?
Sat Jan 26, 2008 12:37 pm
People do see stuff. People just don't always understand what they are seeing.
I saw this once fly over with no sound... really high...
Person with me said look a UFO. Jets don't look like that!
I just wish they would get what ever it is (over Texas) out of R & D so I can see it at an airshow in the future!
