Could be wrong...probably am...but didn't they try to break some world speed records with that P-47 with the scimitar blades on it?

Reminds me of when we were rebuilding Schroder's P-47. THe prop was at a shop in California, and we wanted to display the aircraft for the big airshow here at least looking complete. So we hung a spare Corsair prop on it, and pushed it outside. It looked pretty good, until the first visitor through the door said, "Hey that's a Corsair prop" Turns out that he worked in the factory making props during the war.

I think I read somewhere the P-47 was tested with a 'supersonic' scimitar shaped prop. I think about 20 or so years back, "The Cockpit" aviation apparel outfit (I think long gone, now) had a color pic of one of these on the cover, maybe with a pilot in front of it. (Maybe even wearing apparel from The Cockpit? ;) ).

Was it a 3 blade or 4 blade Corsair prop?

It was a 4 bladed prop. Looked alright, but not nearly the right one.

Good grief, he must have really had an 'eye'. How much different was the Corsair's HS prop from the HS props used on later P-47s?
