Calling gun sights specialists

Can someone identify on which plane(s) these gunsights were fitted to :

- They are refurbished N-9
- They come from a batch found in France a few years ago
- I've been told F-84 but really doubt it.
- The rubber bumper had been removed on all Three examples i saw.

A-26 used them.

The N-9 traces it's roots to WWII, but the "USAF" data tag on the side points directly to post-1947 use of this gunsight, though it could have gone through a refurbishment.
B-26, F-86, F-84 etc. could all have used it.

Totally agree that the classical N-9 with B1 sighting head was used on all those planes (example photo for A-26) but we have here another sighting head AND the protective rubber bumper removed during refurbishment.

would have therefore been very unsafe for the pilot if any of those plane in case of accident !!

I flew the RF-84F and it had the N-9 sight.

According to the Dash-1, "Modified block 5 through block 30 and later aircraft are equipped with a N-9 reflecting type gunsight with a 50.5 mil reticule".

Yes, it does. That would also explain the Republic Aviation on the sight dataplate.

Any chance you could post a scan of the manual page where we can see the gun sight. I have the manual for the F-84, but the the RF-84.

BTW, why would a recon plane have a gun sight if they have no guns ?

It would give the pilot a false sense of security or Maybe they didn't tell the recon pilot it lacked guns.

Ah, but we did. We had 4-50 cals. Two in each wing stub. We had no dreams of dogfighting, but it would be handy to keep their heads down, when you had to take a Foward Oblique. I still have the manual, I'll see if I can figue out how to send an attach.
