A-4B for Warbird Heritage Foundation

Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:55 pm

The Warbird Heritage Foundation of Waukegan IL has acquired the A-4B Skyhawk from the EAA and is in the process of returning it to flight. Check out our website for our progress to airworthy.

David:

Any chance we can talk you into doing a post on what it takes to make this beast fly like the Sabre Annual one??

David - that's GREAT news! It will be awsome to see an A-4B Skyhawk flying on the warbird air show circuit. I really enjoyed seeing the WHF F-86F and T-2B at Thunder Over Michigan last year. The foundation is developing quite a stable of exciting vintage jet warbird aircraft.

Please keep us posted on the progress.

I'll look in to starting a thread in the maint hangar detailing what we're doing to work towards airworthy. There will also be updates on our website with new photos added regularly. I hope Wix'ers will view both.
Here's a current photo of our new A4.

I think it's just great that EAA has finally let go of the jets that were donated to them back in the 90s. It's awesome to see a couple of them being restored back to flying condition.

I was extremely disappointed when the flying jets were given to EAA and they ended up as static displays. Glad to see a new lease on life for a couple of them and I'm looking forward to seeing the Skyhawk on the airshow circuit.

Dude,

What a beauty! Is this at your "house"? I am still working on T33driver's F-86 (collection program), don't have room in my shop for any A4 bits.

Does this mean a new "tat" for the jet age?

Thanks guys for all the good comments. I too am glad to be working on bringing another airplane back to airworthy. I'm an avid believer that they are meant to fly if at all possible.
Scott,
I was thinking about that F86 collection you have. That's about all the further I got though. it's been pretty busy with the condition inspection going on with the Sabre right now as well as working on the A4. I wish it was here at home, but it's still in Oshkosh. It's going to be a while before we start engine runs etc. Our goal is to fly it back to Oshkosh this year for Airventure.
Maybe a classic jet Tattoo will work on the other shoulder. I'll have to work on a design for that one.

So what's the deal with the Hunter that was part of the collection???
It's been for sale for quite a while at a low price with no takers

From what I remember there is a pretty large corrosion issue with it. I might be wrong.

Apart from mthe Collings Foundation TA-4J, are there any other warbird Skyhawk flying around ?

Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:01 am

There's a TA-4 in Texas and another TA-4 going together for an owner in Wyoming. Maybe Rick H knows of more out there?

The one in Texas is in Houston and that is the TA-4J of the Collings.

Think the other TA-4 going together is being assembled in Driggs, Idaho, by Rich Sugden's Teton Warbirds.

There's one that's been around a while that was originally built up from pieces in Washington state. It now belongs to Victor Miller, last I heard it was at Alliance Airport north of Ft Worth.

There is another being built up in AZ using a forward fuselage and the main pieces from an A-4L. This will allow a J-52 power change. The wings and tail are essentially the same.

Is there any chance of any TA-4's or singleseaters being imported and for sale in flying condition?
