Kentucky Locator

I have taken the Kentucky section of the Locator as far as I can, so I turn it over to you...

You will find the “Need Help List” below. It is simply a list of locations I need assistance with to make the data more complete and is a subset of the complete listing available via the link above. The “Need Help List” is based on Locator locations with the big red + signs. If you notice you have any info to contribute when viewing the complete list just click the red or blue + and you will be taken to a form where many of the fields will already be filled out but you can also provide corrections and/or new information. You can also post here if you would like.

I have created a way to automatically generate the “Need Help” list for these WIX posts, so the numbering system might appear odd to you. The numbers in the list are the serial number to the entries which are normally hidden, but they are unique which serves the purpose. Also, I am including a link to a map for each “Need Help Location”. For cases where I am looking for a better map reference you can right click on the location of the map where you know the aircraft to be and you will be presented with those coordinate. Just copy those coordinates into a post here. This way is much easier for you and me to convey where things are.

naw, KY's fine. I think that Russellville T-33 is on the west side of town along rte. 68, at the American Legion memorial...and I know that there is a Huey on base at Fort Campbell in KY (just south of Hopkinsville). My mom lives there and hopefully I'll be going through both Russellville and Hoptown within the next month or so and will check on those and let you know.

You can add to your locator the Caravalle at the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International airport in Erlanger, Kentucky. It is located at the firehouse at the center of the airport. (New Price Pike and Holscher Dr. Use 41018 for a starting point)

In the next upload there will be an improvement map point for the T-33, although still approximate. GE images in that area are poor. Live Maps are better, but I suspect they are very old.

As for the Fort Campbell UH-1, I already have that one noted. It is part of a larger collection.

Mike it is inside the "airport boundry", but is just off the road behind a chain linked fence. It is viewable, and at some points open for public tour, though I do not know what the conditions are for that.

Here is one I didn't see listed. A new FBO is opening at Bluegrass Airport that also houses the owner's warbird collection that includes the P-51 "Hurry Home Honey" and a T-34. This is his post from another forum (airshowbuzz)

The Air 51 is interesting, since we used to spend a lot of time in Lexington. They have a super nice FBO already so its going to be hard to compete with them (unless he's buying them). That FBO is right across the ramp from the Museum too. Everytime I've been there we at least looked into the Museum and as far as I know they didn't charge aircrews.

If they were building a new FBO where it says AIR51 on the photo, that would suck since the tower usually clears helicopters to fly down that road between the hangars to depart (to avoid the runways) and he'd be in the way.

Okay, I made it to Hopkinsville, Russellville, and Bowling Green this week and have some info for you. (black spots in the upper right corner of some pictures are from my camera...sorry)

There is a UH-1H (66-16574 is painted on it) in Hopkinsville at approximately 36 50'02.36" N and 87 28'16.06" W. It is at the memorial for the 248 Fort Campbell soldiers killed in the Gander, Newfoundland crash while returning home from a peacekeeping mission. They recently planted new trees to honor those killed; the original trees can be seen on google earth but became diseased and died.











I drove through Russellville to where I believe that T-33 was displayed at an American Legion post. It wasn't there. An APC of some sort was there but I think that it had been there before. Not sure if it has been moved somewhere else or if I went to the wrong place

On to Bowling Green, where I went to the new KY Aviation Heritage site south of town. GE coordinates are 36 55'08.06" N and 86 26'09.51" W. The Phantom (66-7550) is displayed already and they are working on the landscaping and lighting. Their website is here: http://aviationheritagepark.com/
