Imagine the shock of seeing that fly over!
I remember the first time I saw the B-2, I nearly crashed my car in awe.
YRB-49 was in 1950!

The YRB-49A sat until it was scrapped in late 1953.

That is really a shame.

The Capitol flyover was authorized by Harry Truman. He saw the aircraft at Andrews, took a tour and exclaimed " We have to get some of these !".

Bob Cardenas did the flyover after Truman ordered it so that Congress could see what we needed to buy.

After setting yet another record on his return flight back to California it wasn't long after that Stuart Symington cancelled the program and had the XB-35s that were undergoing conversion to YB-49s scrapped. One YRB-49 remained in another location and it survived for an additional year. When the USAF realized one of the wings was missed the scrap team was reassembled and the aircraft was destroyed.

The Smithsonmian and NMUSAF were both turned down with their request for an example for preservation.
