Sea Dart at Pax River (early 1970's)

Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:55 pm

My brother was installing an early cable tv system on base in the early 70's and found the Sea Dart looking worse for wear. Where is it now? Baugher and other sites say that it is at the NASM Garber facility.

This aircraft is the first prototype for the Sea Dart, the XF2Y-1. It is owned by the National Air and Space Museum, but I do not recall seeing it on public display at NASM. I don't recall seeing it at Silver Hill either, but I could be wrong. NASM's website lists it at WINGS G2, but I am uncertain where that is.

There are a couple of YF2Y-1's around. I know there was one at Willow Grove, and one at the San Diego Air and Space Museum, both outside. I do also recall a Sea Dart at the EAA's Florida Air Museum in Lakeland, Florida. That's a YF2Y-1 as well I think. You'd think that these mueums would bring these rare birds inside.

Thanks for the photos... very interesting.

Cheers,
Richard
