Engine/Aircraft Id needed

Hi everyone, got a little bit of a query for you all

My father is up in the Northern Territory Islands at the moment and has emailed me a picture of an aircraft engine he found out bush in the middle of nowhere (no fuselage or other parts nearby.....so i'm suggesting a mid air breakup/off)

To me it looks like an r-1830 series engine. There is no part numbers visible although the most identifying items are the engine mount attachment points and oil tank. I've gone through the catalina/hudson/lib/mitchell etc......but am starting to lean towards a fighter aircraft in my thinking due to the size of the oil tank.

Anyone care to have an guess??? Would prefer an educated guess and a possible comparison photo to back up claims

One of your clues might be how the engine mount attaches to the firewall. Most US aircraft have a tension bolt that goes aft into the fuselage/nacelle. Your picture shows a clevis arrangement with a bolt in shear.

Thats how I have ruled out potential aircraft but I can't seem to find any pics of aircraft with this arrangement..hence my query

That is by far the biggest clue In that photo as to the id of the potential aircraft..anyone else care to have a go ????
