Brave Men-Why We Are A Free Nation

Sat Dec 15, 2007 9:19 pm

Off topic but still appropiate. I found this shot today while searching for other shots.
This a a 5th Armored GI in combat in Germany in March 1945.
He's run out in front of a Tiger tank and hit it with a rocket from his
bazooka. I can't fathom the courage it takes to to perform such acts?

Some of it is adrenaline. Some of it is knowing if you don'tdo it he's going to kill you and all your friends anyway. Some of it is guilt that your fear will kill your friends, some of it just that crazy feeling you get when stress goes too high. Very little is being patriotic. That's for when you raise your hand and pick a service. After that it's all reaction, less than action. Reaction takes a different set of drives, IMHO.

One ballsy sumbitch, I must say.

wow. They say that training will make you do this sort of thing out of instinct, but I am not sure I buy that. I'm not sure if you can train someone to be that bold/ brave/ stupid (pick your own adjective).

You sure he's hiting the Tiger from the Front?

:D

ODDBALL: A Tiger has only one weak point.
That's its ass.

You've got to hit it point blank
and you've got to hit it from behind.

Well, from the angle of the picci I woudl assume that's a tail shot. Also no main gun sticking out that I can see, so I'm asumeing they've snuck around behind it to do the deed. Doesn't make the guy any less brave. Just smart.
