"MEMPHIS BELLE" 1961 Reunion Photos

Gang, Check Out these interesting photos from the 1961 "Memphis Belle" Crew Reunion. Even Margaret Polk Herself showed up, the original "Memphis Belle"!! I really like those extra thin neck ties. I wish I could get some like that today, but they're very difficult to find. In My opinion, today's modern neck ties are much too big & wide:

These photos really show the special bond that can only happen in the Military. I Retired from the USAF over 10 years ago. My old USAF buddies still call Me every few months for some reason. Ha! Ha! I think that's really bizarre & funny. I guess it's some sort of Military thing... One of My Father's old WW2 AAF buddies called Me recently looking for My Dad. Scheeesh!! That was over 60 years ago. Unfortunately, My Dad passed away in 1997...
It would be so cool to have another "Memphis Belle" Crew Reunion like this. Sadly, That will never happen again... Digger

Great pics. I think it is interesting in how the nose art was repainted in the 1960's. I was hoping that the Belle would be restored in Dayton while some of the crew members were still alive. I wish this could have been done. Atleast she will be preserved in a place of honor.

Do you have names to go with the pictures? There were actually more than ten crew total. Some only flew a few missions. One of those guys
(Adkins) used to live in my hometown.

Those are really remarkable pictures. I agree that there's something about the military that forms a bond stronger than any other relationship in the world.

Fascinating pics. So Stangdriver, are you saying that all the Belle's crew have passed now? I knew Robert Morgan left us a year or two ago, but I assumed a few of the other were still kicking around.

It's sad that they won't get to see her restored, but the thing that has always struck me about most of the WWII vets I've met is that they regard their service as just something they felt they had to do at the time. Most would rather concentrate on the "real lives" they started after they returned home. I think one of the things that marks a true hero is humility.
