P-40 gathering

Sat Dec 15, 2007 12:12 am

I am going to have a heart attack but here is the list of P-40's planning to attend Geneseo next year! It looks like they are trying to get every P-40 flying in the world to come!!   :D I'll just paste it for you:

That, Folks, is the working title of GSOT 2008. When I went to the Museum Wednesday, I had the good fortune to be able to spend some time with our Airshow Coordinator Frank Schaufler. I saw the poster and T-shirt artwork and as, usual, they are AB FAB! Before Nathan spontaneously combusts, here is the info, so far, on the P-40s for the show.
Frank has located and is working on 23 airframes including 3 which are being restored in New Zealand but are scheduled to be completed and back in the US before Airshow time. Frank has been in touch with the owners who will receive them and the project leader of the restorations.
The status so far on the planes mentioned on Nathan's list is as follows:

P-40M Jacky C II - confirmed and will be attending.

P-40E AK8997 - confirmed and will be attending.

P-40E fighter Factory - confirmed and will be attending.

P-40E AK753 - status unknown at this time.

P-40E AK 950 - in negotiations.

P-40K Dick Thurman - Mr. Thurman no longer owns this aircraft. Frank is in touch with its new owner Tom Blair in Florida.

P-40E and P-40N John Curtis-Paul - Frank is in touch with Mr. Curtis-Paul.

TP-40N Kermit Weeks - Frank is in touch with Mr. Weeks.

Frank has found a second flyable TP-40 and is in touch with its owner.

N940AK - a former Geneseo warbird - its owner Tony Banta has expressed a keen interest in coming to Geneseo for the Airshow.

Well, that's it for now. I will be contacting Frank the day after each Airshow meeting to update the status of the aircraft attending. If you know of any P-40s other than the ones on Nathan's list, or mentioned in this post, post its information and/or owner and I will be happy to contact Frank as to its status as it pertains to our Airshow.

Keep the Faith and Be Safe,
Tom K.

I am working directly with Frank on arranging and contacting owners and operators on the gathering and would like to reinforce the following before anyone gets too wild...

All the aircraft that are interested in attending are only able to do so PROVIDED that 1941 HAG has the funding to do so. Even if an owner is gracious enough to waive an appearance fee for the aircraft, there is still a significant expense involving fuel and direct operating costs to bring them in. Our West Coast folks have been very interested, but the hours of flight time to get them to Geneseo don't come cheap.

I ask this for anyone seeing these posts... the only way that it can happen is through sponsor help. Be it a $500 donation from a business all the way up to a major-level sponsorship through a fuel provider... all the help in the world is needed.

If anyone has contacts for a fuel sponsor, please email or PM me... it is the #1 priority at this point.

Thanks!
Ryan

Just tossing this out there, I'd be willing to kick in $30 if we can get a WIX fund started to sponsor a P-40's appearance. I can't see raising thousands of dollars, but if we could get a couple hundred I'm sure that would help.

Re: P-40 gathering!!! Holy cow!!

Whats wrong in trying to get every flying P-40 to attend a Kittyfeed? How many kitties could attend such a feedlot? There heaps in Europe/NZ/Australia right that could be freighted in?

Personally I think that this will be a fitting tribute for the P-40. Being that its a New York Airplane.

My dad and I are working on attending and bringing a nice display from the collection of a Tech Rep from Curtiss. He was with the RAF in egypt working with the Kittyhawk. We have pics, manuals, blueprints, & correspondance from the field to the factory on issues with the airplane.

Should be really neat to see for all the P-40 Buffs!

On personal Geneseo side, is it possible to get the AAPM's PBY to come in with the P-40? What about Fuddy Duddy? I know that would be more of a long shot, since shes comin from CA. So is there a chance for any big sponsers for the show and gas?

Is John Fallis's P40 going to be there.

Whoa, Nelly!

Folks, as much as we'd like to have every P-40 in the U.S attend, realistically, you know that is impossible for multitude of reasons. I will try to keep you as up to date as I can on which ones will be attending along with the other aircraft. A lot can happen in the next 7 months. Let's just take it one step at a time. OK? First as was mentioned, the sponsor and fuel sponsor issue is an important factor.

And don't mention 'airline ticket', bdk. ;)

There's a big world out there, with lots of different warbirds to discover.

(And I've heard all the 'reasons' and 'excuses' for not travelling... If you care enough, you can make it happen. Getting on an airliner to another country's airshow is easy, compared to the effort expended in getting the warbird back into the sky.)
